Perhaps you need to prepare a salad for a party, or for work the next day. Do it too far in advance and it will become soggy and gross. How-to illustrator Yumi Sakugawa points to a method that solves this problem and lets you prepare salad up to 12 hours in advance.
Here’s what you do:
- Place the salad dressing at the bottom of the bowl.
- Add the hard vegetables (such as carrots).
- Place the soft vegetables and lettuce on top of that.
- Cover with a paper towel and store for up to 12 hours. When you’re ready to eat, just toss the salad.
It’s a simple trick and doesn’t really take much more effort — arrange things a little differently and you end up with a crispier meal.
