Prepare Salad In Advance Without Making It Soggy

Perhaps you need to prepare a salad for a party, or for work the next day. Do it too far in advance and it will become soggy and gross. How-to illustrator Yumi Sakugawa points to a method that solves this problem and lets you prepare salad up to 12 hours in advance.

Here’s what you do:

  1. Place the salad dressing at the bottom of the bowl.
  2. Add the hard vegetables (such as carrots).
  3. Place the soft vegetables and lettuce on top of that.
  4. Cover with a paper towel and store for up to 12 hours. When you’re ready to eat, just toss the salad.

It’s a simple trick and doesn’t really take much more effort — arrange things a little differently and you end up with a crispier meal.
