Asus RT-N66U ‘Dark Knight’ Router Delivers Stellar Performance And Features

If you’re looking to upgrade your router, you won’t go wrong with the Asus RT-N66U “Dark Knight”. The dual-band RT-N66u not only tops the charts for speed, it has an excellent long range and supports custom firmware like DD-WRT and Tomato.Tech review site The Wirecutter selected the RT-N66u as best Wi-Fi router, and this router has also earned rave reviews from other sites, such as Small Net Builder.

At over $200, the router isn’t cheap, but it outperforms similarly priced routers; in the 5GHz band, the Dark Knight reached speeds of 180Mbps and also excelled at a range of 30 metres, according to CNET and Wirecutter. Its Wi-Fi signal stretches up to 90 metres through what Asus calls “Ai Radar” signal optimisation.

Extra Flash storage makes the router more stable even with lots of active connections, and the router supports the fastest specification for the wireless-n (802.11n) standard (N900). (Although there are routers available with the 802.11ac newer and faster standard, it may be too early to invest in that standard because few devices support it.)

Other features include detachable antennas, VPN server support, real-time traffic monitoring, parental controls, two USB ports for sharing a printer or hard drive, and four gigabit Ethernet ports.
