Download Firefox 4.0 Final Now, Official Release Coming Tomorrow

Firefox 4 is slated for an official release tomorrow, but impatient users can already grab the update from Mozilla's FTP servers now.

However, the folks at Mozilla strongly discourage grabbing from their FTP servers, which aren't designed to handle the kind of traffic that a big release and lots of hungry Firefox fans adds to the mix. (Basically it's what they use to distribute the release to all their big asset servers.) In fact, they've specifically requested that we avoid linking to it in the past, so we're not doing so here.

If, however, you can't wait until the download hits official Mozilla channels, you can download the final release from web site Fileforum. Here are the download pages for Firefox 4 on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Enjoy!

And stick around—we're going to put the new release through its paces and come back tomorrow with a look at our favourite features and more browser speed tests.

I've been running the RC and like it a lot. It might even bring me back from Chrome,....might.

If I update to 4.0 will I lose my browser history by default? I'm slowly going through a huge database of links and really want to keep the "visited" ones highlighted (it will take me a couple of weeks to finish going through them - I've already set keeping my history to some huge length of time.) If I backup my history to xmarks would that keep it intact? What is the best way to upgrade without losing that history?

It kept everything for me. Stayed logged into everything and I have all my history + bookmarks.
