Vodafone 3G In Regional Centres Goes Live

Vodafone has expanded its 3G coverage outside of capital cities to some major regional population centres, making its already cheap mobile broadband plans look even more enticing.

Vodafone is switching on the new 3G options from May 1, though, as we noted when this scheme was originally announced, some areas won’t get the expanded service until August (Vodafone claims its coverage now encompasses 80% of the population). Coincidentally, the new rollout coincides exactly with the Hand Luggage Only project, where I’ll largely be relying on a Vodafone USB modem to stay connected. Looking good for Cairns, but Devonport (alas) is still a bust. Hit up the coverage maps linked below to see if you’re about to get a speed boost.
