Mac: Back in the days before Mac OS X, Apple created a notes app called Stickies to let you post little coloured notes all over your screen. Despite a lack of updates for years, it’s still widely used and a favourite among many. Nootes is an app that works similarly to Stickies but provides a number of additional features. If you’ve wished for a Stickies upgrade, you’ll want to check this out.
Mac: Selecting a large block of text with a Macbook’s trackpad often doesn’t work very well. SlideMode is a simple little app that adds a keyboard shortcut to make selecting large blocks of text as easy as a swipe.
Cubby is a new cloud syncing service with one major difference from its competition: It doesn’t have any storage limits when you’re syncing from computer to computer.
Lion introduced a new feature called “elastic scrolling”, in which you can scroll past the top or bottom of the window and it’ll “bounce back” like a rubber band. If you find this feature distracting or annoying, you can turn it off with a Terminal command.
Mac: Dragging and dropping folders and files is one of the easiest ways to move things around on a Mac, but the problem with it is that you have to have a destination folder ready. DragonDrop is a simple app that adds a holding bin to store data so you can find the destination folder easier.
Dear Lifehacker, Am I able to restart my computer and have it automatically reopen whatever programs and files I had open? For instance, when I uninstall a program, it often asks me to restart to complete installation. However, I usually have numerous programs running, files that I’m editing, tabs open in Firefox and so on. To restart I have to save and close everything, restart, then reload and open everything. Surely there’s an easier way? Thanks, Boot Polish

iOS/Mac: The iOS and Mac clients for the note-taking service Evernote have both received big updates that include interface changes and new features. The Mac version received an entirely new Card View, while the iOS version gets an upgrade to the note editor.
Malware isn’t always about stealing your personal information or roping you into a botnet. The recent Flashback malware for Mac (which infected more than 600,000 users) used a more subtle method to make money: hijacking the browser so that every search infected users made was redirected through a “pay per click” network, adding up to big bucks for the cyber-criminals. In an added twist, Twitter also played a crucial role in keeping the malware updated.
Mac OS X: Metanota is a beautiful syncing notes app that works with the wonderful Simplenote service. While it’s far from the only option available, it offers excellent organisational features, a three-pane (widescreen-friendly) interface, and the simplicity you need to focus on your writing.
