Do Not Take This Twitter Exec’s Vacation Advice

As December creeps to a close, perhaps you’re looking forward to some time off from work to veg out or take a holiday before the New Year. Nathan Hubbard, a former Twitter exec, has other ideas for you.

He says: keep working so you can be 3.8% better than everyone else.

It’s popular rhetoric among certain “influencers” and tech-types to ALWAYS KEEP WORKING and slay the competition while they’re asleep (remember: sleeping is for the weak) or, I guess, enjoying time with family over the holidays. You want to take your kid to see Santa? Joke’s on you and your lost productivity.

But if you’re lucky enough to get some time off at the end of the year, it’s OK to actually take that time off and enjoy your vacation. Spend some time with your family and friends. You’ll still be able to hustle in the new year.

That’s not to say there aren’t certain things you can do to better yourself if you have some time off. You could work on your résumé, start getting your finances in order, or even teach yourself to relax. Personally, I plan to bake a lot of cookies, read a half-dozen paperbacks, and not check Twitter.
