You Can Use A Lighter To Start A Campfire Even If It’s Broken

Packing a cheap lighter with your outdoor gear is always a good idea. Even if it runs out of fuel or the plastic casing breaks, it’s still a great fire-starting tool.

Whether it’s your lighter that broke, or you just happened to find one on the ground, YouTuber Grant Thompson shows you how to start a fire with it in this video. Find a long flat stick or surface, and slowly roll the lighter’s striking wheel along it while holding the lighter sideways. Make sure you go slow enough that it doesn’t spark, and repeat the process 40 to 50 times. After a while, the cap of the lighter will get filled with ferrocerium powder. Just dump that onto some kindling and ignite it by sparking the lighter as you would normally.
