Samsung announced that it will be releasing the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy SG Edge+ in Australia on September 4. We’ve put together an easy to read table that outlines the cheapest plans available for both phone on Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and Virgin.
If you want to learn more about the two Samsung handsets, we’ve outlined five key things you need to know about them, along with a brief spec sheet.
The pricing list for the cheapest plans to get the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ is below. Bear in mind while one telco might be offering a cheaper plan, you need to look at the included calls and data to gauge the true value of each deal.
All plans listed are for a contract term of 24 months:
Samsung Galaxy Note 5 32GB
Telco | Plan | Handset cost | Plan features | Total cost |
---|---|---|---|---|
Telstra | $55 Go Mobile plan | $28 | $500 talk and text, 1GB data | $83 |
Optus | $40 My Plan Plus | $25 | Unlimited talk and text, 500MB data | $65 |
Vodafone | $80 Red Plan | $5 | Unlimited talk and text, 6GB data | $85 |
Virgin | $30 plan | $34 | $300 talk and text, 300MB data | $64 |
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+
Telco | Plan | Handset cost | Handset colour | Plan features | Total cost |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Telstra | $55 Go Mobile plan | $37 (32GB) / $42 (64GB) | Black or White | $500 talk and text credit, 1GB data | $92 (32GB) / $97 (64GB) |
Optus | $40 My Plan Plus | $30 | Black | Unlimited talk and text, 500MB data | $70 |
Vodafone | $100 Red Plan | $13 (32GB) / $23 (64GB) | Black | Unlimited talk and text, 10GB data | $113 (32GB) / $123 (64GB) |
Virgin | $30 plan | $39 | Black | $300 talk and text, 300 data | $69 |
If you’re someone who is looking to transition from a smaller phone to one of these Samsung “phablets”, it’s worth paying a bit extra for a higher data cap. As an owner of a Note device, I can tell you now that having a phone with a larger screen makes consuming media much more enjoyable and you’ll be doing more of it. I’ve made the mistake of staying on a smaller data plan and ended up blowing by limit on several occasions. You’ll probably want 1.5GB per month at an absolute bare minimum.
Of course, if you really don’t want to sign onto a new plan and be locked in for 24 months, you can always get the phones outright:
- Samsung Galaxy Note 5 32GB: $1099 RRP
- Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ 32GB: $1199 RRP
- Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ 64GB: $1299 RRP

Offering less than 1GB data in this day and age is stupid.
I am a bit confused between choosing galaxy S6 edge and Note 5. I have previously used Note 3 and was very pleased with it’s performance. Now I have an iphone 6 and its good but want to switch back to android.
@lifehacker have you guys compared the two phones? Can we get a blog post on it? I think everyone would really appreciate it.
