Elevator Pitch: Squixa

Elevator Pitch is a regular feature on Lifehacker where we profile startups and new companies and pick their brains for entrepreneurial advice. This week, we’re talking with Stewart McGrath from Squixa.

In 128 words or less, explain your business idea.

Squixa is an acceleration platform for websites that re-engineers websites on-the-fly, speeding up the time it takes to load a page by 20 to 50 per cent, and keeping websites up when traffic surges. We combine our proprietary platform with the world’s best content delivery networks to make sure users get to a website quickly and stay there. It’s easy to install and has straightforward monthly plans.

What strategies are you using to grow and finance your idea?

We have spent a lot of time working with great partners in the digital space in Australia to spread the word about our offering and augment what those partners already deliver.

We already work with websites like NRMA Motoring, health fund nib, as well as retail brands Lorna Jane and Temple & Webster. We have been very fortunate to have terrific customers who have often gone out of their way to recommend us to other potential partners.

On the funding side, we have put a lot of our own sweat in to grow the business but have also secured funding key investors at strategic times to help grow the business.

What’s the biggest challenge facing your business?

Handling our current growth is our biggest challenge at the moment but one we are relishing. We have lots of customers joining and we need to find more great people to support them.

How do your differentiate your business from your competitors?

For such new technology, we rely on pretty old fashioned differentiation. We have a better product that is delivering better customer outcomes, it is more cost effective with a simple pricing structure, and we provide superior customer service over our rivals.

What one phone, tablet or PC application could you not live without?

Email, Excel, Evernote and similar apps have been great but probably my best app find has been Zendesk’s iOS app. It lets the whole Squixa team stay on top of delivering the best customer service.

What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve ever received?

Cash is king but it’s all about the people; customers, co-workers, shareholders and suppliers.
