Reader Ammar Githam took our evil weeks to heart and made this great-looking, informative home screen. We’ll leave it to him to explain.
I customised my homescreen to make it look simple, neat and smart, and it goes well with the Gingerbread green colour. I’m using the stock Gingerbread OS on my Samsung Galaxy SL with GO Launcher Ex as the launcher. I am not using many widgets on my screen as I really like the wallpaper. The Evil Android under the torn layer.
I’ve mainly kept all the Internet apps on the centre screen. I use Minimalistic Text for the date. You can tap the date to open any calendar app. I’ve not kept any clock widget as the time is always there in the notification bar. The black circle in the centre is the Circle Launcher for more Internet apps which I don’t use often but should be accessible quickly if I do need them. I also use Switch Pro for the Data connection and Bluetooth widget.
On the left screen, I again use Minimalistic Text for the battery. You can tap the widget to open the Battery Usage screen. I’ve kept this screen for things I don’t do many times in a day (eg. Keep an alarm, Calculate things, or update or download a new app) but at the same time they shouldn’t be far when I need them.
The right screen screen is for other utilities which I use regularly. I use Phantom Music Control for the music widget, which controls PowerAmp.
Though PowerAmp has its own widgets, I couldn’t make those fit properly in the area I wanted and also there are no skins available for those widgets. So I’m using the Phantom Music Control widget as it gives options for customisation including skins.
The icons are not included with any GO Launcher theme. I found some of them on the internet and others I’ve photoshopped. I made the wallpaper merging the Evil Android wallpaper which I found on Lifehacker and another from DeviantArt.
