Photoshop CC users on OS X machines — today is a happy day. Well, 30 November was, when Adobe released an update to its popular image editor, enabling 10-bit colour support. To activate it, all you have to do is turn on a setting.
Of course, 10-bit colour isn’t much use to you if your video card / monitor combination doesn’t support it, though if you have a Retina 5K iMac, you’re in business.
PetaPixel has the paint-by-numbers guide, but if you just want the raw instructions, here they are:
- Go to File -> Preferences -> Performance
- Under “Graphics Processor Settings” click the “Advanced Settings…” button
- When the “Advanced Graphics Processor Settings” dialog appears, tick the “30 Bit Display” option
That’s it. Enjoy the extra two bits of colour per channel (if your system can manage it).
