CCleaner Version 5.0, More Minor Than Major Update

CCleaner is one of those reliable system tools that always finds a way onto your Windows install. Most of its tasks can be done manually, sure, but it’s the height of convenience to have your PC scrubbed at the click of a button. Developer Piriform this week pushed out version 5.0 and while there are some nice enhancements, it’s nothing to write home about.

For its latest release, CCleaner has received a number of under-the-hood tweaks, however the main change in 5.0 is the revamped user interface. In terms of features, Chrome users can look forward to better startup item detection, as well as another way to manage plug-ins. For those who have abandoned Windows 7, “optimised” 64-bit builds are available if you’re running Windows 8, 8.1 or 10.

Otherwise, there’s not much to get excited about but then, CCleaner does its job extremely well so it’s hard to say what else it needs. Here’s a complete rundown of tweaks from the official changelog:

– New improved GUI.
– Improved internal architecture for better performance.
– Added Google Chrome plugin management.
– Improved Google Chrome Startup item detection.
– Optimized automatic updates for Pro version.
– Improved system restore detection routine.
– Updated exception handling and reporting architecture.
– Optimized 64-bit builds on Windows 8, 8.1 and 10.
– Updated various translations.
– Many performance improvements and bug fixes.

If you’re already running CCleaner, you’ve probably seen the update notification. If not, you can grab 5.0 from the Piriform website.
