Trying to boost your points total with Virgin Australia’s Velocity program? Flights for May and June can potentially earn double points — but there are a few hoops to jump through.
First of all, you have to register for the promotion using your existing Velocity number. (The terms and conditions state that you need to receive an invitation email, but I registered fine despite not having received that message.)
Then you have to book a domestic flight for dates between 30 April and 25 June 2014. Existing bookings aren’t eligible. The promotion runs until 15 March. Also, you only earn double the base points involved — Silver, Gold or Platinum flyers won’t double the extra points they earn as a result of their status. Nor do you earn extra status credits.
Bottom line? If you weren’t planning to fly anyway, scoring double points is unlikely to be worth the cost of a flight. But if you do have half-formed travel plans, this might help crystallise them.

The invitation I received today was all about double status credits.

VFF does targeted marketing, some people receive double SC, some get double points, some get nothing. If you get the email and forward it someone else to register – they won’t get the points/SC.
