We’ve shown you some automated turn signals, a brake light backpack, and even a whole automated safety system for bikers. If you need to be heard as well as seen, however, a bike bell won’t cut it. This full-fledged horn is as loud as a car’s horn and mounts to your bike.
The video above is the closest thing Bike Hacks provides to a walkthrough of the whole thing. Chris, the reader who put the whole thing together, also goes into a bit more detail at his YouTube video at the link below. You can see how he has the battery mounted and all of the wiring involved with making this work. He used a Ryobi rechargeable drill battery, attached the wires down to the battery contacts, and ran the wires up to the horn assembly, which is mounted to his handlebars with hose clamps.
It’s definitely a lot of electrical tape and nylon, but we imagine some simple PVC or rubber hosing to sheath the wires would be a good idea to keep the wiring more protected from the elements. Still, Chris says he rides about 6km every day to and from work, not including his errands, and it’s held up well. Hit the link below and check the description to see how he did it (and some other bike mods he’s done).
