How to Connect a PS4 Controller to a PC

Even though Sony’s DualShock 4 controller was tailored to work best with the PS4 console, the controller can also be used with your PC; it just takes a few steps to do so.

Connect your PS4 controller to your PC using a USB cable

There are a couple of methods to connect your PS4 controller to your PC, the first being using a USB cable. To do this, you’ll need your PS4 controller and a microUSB cable such as the one that came with your controller. Next, plug the microUSB end of the cable into your controller and the other end into a USB port on your computer. And that’s about it: Your PS4 controller is now ready to use on your PC.

Connect your PS4 controller to your PC via Bluetooth

The other method of connecting is wirelessly using Bluetooth. To connect, make sure your controller is off, then press and hold the PlayStation button (the one in the middle of the controller with a PS icon on it) and the Share button (the button to the left of the touchpad) for about three seconds until the lightbar at the top of the controller starts to double flash.

On your PC, go to Settings and then Devices and Bluetooth & other devices. Above the Bluetooth toggle, you should see a + icon and Add Bluetooth or other device next to it. A list asking you the type of device should pop up; select the Bluetooth option at the top of the list. You should then see a list of Bluetooth devices that you can pair to; look for your PS4 controller from that list and click its name to connect.
