October’s Money Challenge: Clean Out Your Closets For Cash

The end of the year is approaching quickly, and as we get closer to December, we want to focus on saving for the holidays. So this month, our challenge is simple: Clean out your closets and make some extra cash while you’re at it.

The purpose of this challenge is twofold. One: You’ll get rid of all the junk that’s just been collecting dust in your closets. Two: You’ll earn some extra cash to pay for holiday expenses, from travel to parties to presents.

So schedule some time this month to go through your closets and gather all of your unwanted stuff, whether it’s an old phone you’ve been meaning to resell or a bunch of clothes you never, ever wear. Donate what you can’t sell, then plan a garage sale or list your stuff on eBay, Gumtree, or any of the many apps that let you flip your stuff for cash. (Tip: Check out eBay’s completed listings to get an idea of what your item will go for).

If you’re in, you can use our checklist for selling stuff online, and here’s a complete guide to selling your unwanted crap for money.

Are you in? If so, let us know in the comments! Tell us what you plan to sell.
