Uber Updates With Upfront Fares And Smart Shortcuts

Uber has been rolling out updates to its app over the past week, and they have made some pretty significant, useful changes.

Uber now learns your ride routine and makes suggestions based on your location and time of day, making the process a little faster. It also offers upfront fares instead of estimates, so you know what you pay before you actually book a trip. Best of all, though, is their new trip feed, which details everything about your ride, like arrival time and driver details. You can also split the ride with friends and share your location with someone else so they can follow your trip.

Over at Wired, Uber’s Yuhki Yamashita explained:

“As soon as the driver starts the trip, the app experience transforms,” says product manager, who led the redesign. As your car pulls away from the curb, a scrollable feed of cards appears from the bottom of the screen, covering the old-school map of your trip in progress. Swiping up moves you through a stack of services Uber thinks you might find useful during your trip…Swipe left on the UberEats card to see which restaurants can deliver to your house in sync with your arrival time…A Yelp card lets you side-swipe to browse photos and reviews of popular dishes….Right there in your Uber Feed is a Snapchat card with custom filters, including one that updates your neglected dinner date on your ETA.
