Make A Pineapple Upside-Down Cake With Whatever Heat Source You Have

Have you ever wished you could make a cake in the microwave, the slow cooker, or even in a pot on the stove? Well, with Christina Tosi’s multipurpose pineapple upside-down cake, you can.

Through a series of very important pineapple upside-down cake experiments, Tosi and crew have developed a recipe for the fruity dessert that can be cooked with whatever (common) kitchen heat source you have on hand.

Each cooking method produces a slightly different cake, and you have to admire the versatility of the recipes. The stove-top version has me most intrigued (camping stove cake anyone?), but the caramelised flavours that come from slow-cooking sound damn delightful. Of course, you could always be traditional and use your oven, but what would be the fun in that?
