Netbooks might be a long-forgotten trend in our tablet-centric world, but there’s still a place for a device with a keyboard that can run standard Windows apps. Kogan’s new Atlas Laptop has somewhat basic specifications, but a basic price too: $359 (plus $19 for delivery).
The 14-inch device sports a 2.16GHz Pentium N3540 processor and a 500GB hard drive. The standard machine only has 2GB of RAM, which frankly isn’t enough to run Windows meaningfully; you can upgrade to 4GB for an extra $10. There are two USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0.
Those specs are going to mean fairly anaemic performance, but if you just want a basic spare laptop or something for the kids, this might do the job.

With a multi-terrabyte external hard drive, this would make a good media/print/home automation server
At around 20 watts much cheaper to run than an old pc as a server.
Replace the hard drive with a fast ssd and you would have a very capable laptop.
Ideal for on the move and if you are tired of those tablets and small phones that cause bad vision.
The windows 10 release may even add an extra uptick.
