Getting your DIY on in a small space isn’t easy. This under-desk storage drawer gives you a place to keep your tools neatly organised, doesn’t take up a lot of space and is easy to build. It’s the perfect companion for your apartment or tiny garage workbench.
The whole tutorial (and the video above) is from Jude Pullen, whose work you’ve seen here before. This time, he explains he’s stuck working at a table in his kitchen in London and needed a place to keep his tools, so he came up with this sliding drawer. A few spare parts from an IKEA bargain bin, some sliding rails from the hardware store, and he has a neatly organised drawer that has compartments for all of his tools without being one big mess of random (and sometimes sharp) objects. Plus, keeping them under the desk like this means you can always see each tool and don’t run the risk of cutting yourself.
You’ll need a few things to do this — namely the wood for the drawer, the sliding rails for the brackets, and the organiser that sits inside the drawer, but a closer look shows he didn’t so much build a “drawer” as a “slide-out tray” with an organiser in it to keep his tools arranged. One thing Jude explained when he sent it over to us was that he wanted to get the whole thing done without power tools or expensive equipment. Hit the link below to see the whole walkthrough.
