Untie A Double-Knotted Shoe With No Fuss

Double knots are great for shoelaces that are a bit too long, but they’re just so darn hard to untie. YouTuber Ikon0307 shows us a much simpler way to undo them.

If you’ve ever tied a double knot and had to do knot surgery just to get it untied, you aren’t alone — but it turns out, with a slight change to your knot, you can make it much easier to untie. Just make sure the two ends of the laces are below the loops before you go to double knot them. Then, all it takes to untie is a simple pull on one of the ends, as if you were untying a single knot. It’s a little hard to explain, so check out the video above to see it in action — if you’ve been using the difficult double knot method all your life, you’ll be blown away.

Note that if you’re tying double knots for better knot security, the older, difficult-to-untie method may be optimal. But if you want something easy to untie, this is perfect. And, while you’re practicing your knot tying, check out how to tie your shoes faster with the Ian Knot.
