Microwave Cold Wheels Of Cheese To Bring Out Extra Flavour

If you have a small wheel of brie or another wheel of rinded cheese that’s too cold to eat, toss it in the microwave for a few seconds to transform it into a delicious, gooey, and richly flavoured treat. It may seem odd to melt “gourmet” cheese a bit, but the result is delicious.

While most people would tell you to eat a good cheese at room temperature, former cheesemonger and cheese shop director Nora Singley tells The Kitchn that an accidental 10 seconds in the microwave for a small wheel of otherwise unremarkable cheese turned it into an unexpected delight, rich with flavours that would never have been present if it were still cold, or even room temperature.

The end result was a faster and easier version of a baked brie, without having to pre-heat the oven or wait as long as baking it would have taken. Using a microwave to melt cheese is nothing new, and we all know melted cheese is delicious, but this trick may be in order the next time you have a so-called gourmet cheese and want something a little different.
