My Concept Rules: Dream Up A Cool Windows Azure App And We’ll Help Make It Happen

Windows Azure opens up the potential for a whole new world of application ideas — and if you win our awesome My Concept Rules contest, you’ll get the chance to see your own brilliant app idea turned into reality, with $40,000 in backing to get it off the ground, as well as other cool prizes.

We’re seeking ideas from Lifehacker and Gizmodo readers (especially those with a developer bent, though you don’t need coding skills) for awesome apps that take advantage of cloud infrastructure and resources. They could be based around making your life easier, helping run your business more smoothly, or offering new services to the world at large. The only requirement is that they take advantage of the possibilities that cloud computing through Windows Azure offers. (We’ve got a whole raft of material to help you understand those possibilities.)

Thanks to Microsoft, you’ll have the chance to see that vision move towards reality. We’ll pick out four finalists and fly them to Sydney for the Remix Australia 2011 developer event, where each finalist will get the chance to pitch their idea to a judging panel. Each finalist will also win an Xbox 360 with Kinect. (If you can’t make it to Sydney, you’ll get the chance to pitch via video.)

The concept that’s selected as the best and most feasible by our judging panel will win five days of consulting with Readify’s Windows Azure Technical Specialist Steven Nagy. You’ll work with Steven to help flesh out your idea, building a proof of concept and setting your application on the road to reality. You’ll also win a six month subscription to Windows Azure and SQL Azure, so that you can continue to work on building out the idea, and your application will be advertised on Lifehacker and Gizmodo.
