- Our Gizmodo colleague Luke Hopewell was among the first Australian journalists to get his hands on Google Glass this week. He describes the augmented-reality eyewear as “a personal assistant on your face” (oo-er!, etc.) You can read his full hands-on account here.
- You can now purchase Kobo eReaders directly from kobo.com in Australia. Available models include the Kobo Touch, Kobo Glo, Kobo Mini, Kobo Arc tablet and Kobo Aura HD; a “luxury” ereader boasting an enlarged 6.8-inch e-ink screen with 265 dpi and 4GB of inbuilt storage (you can read our impressions of the device here).
- eBay has enlisted Dimension Data Learning Solutions (DDLS) to deliver a series of business training courses for selling on eBay in Australia. The first course, dubbed ‘Starting your business on eBay’ will kick off 15th August with morning and afternoon sessions available through to 19th December. Tickets cost $275.
- An investigation by consumer advocacy magazine Choice has found a significant markup in pre-order prices for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One games in Australia compared to the same games in the United States. “Our analysis of the available game prices has shown that Australians will pay an average of 33% more for PS4 games and 29% more for Xbox One games,” the report claims. Of course it’s all a bit meaningless at this stage, as all the price listings are purely speculative. Still, the costlier pre-order guesstimates doesn’t bode well for Aussies.
- If you’re on the lookout for dirt-cheap hardware, Kogan Technologies is offering free shipping to (almost) anywhere in Australia for today only. The offer is available store-wide, including bulky items like TVs. The one caveat is that Kogan “reserves the right to not ship to some remote and rural locations”. The offer is available until midnight.
- In other bargain news, footwear specialists Florsheim is currently having a half-off sale storewide. Just add the promo code FLSC50 during checkout to knock 50% of the price off. [Via OzBargain]

Sooo getting sick of game companies price gouging over here. So yeah we have a better economy but most of the people that play their games in this economy don’t. the government should tell them to either make the price fair or they can’t do business with us.
if they want to continue to price gouge i will continue to a – pirate my games or b – import them
