As jobs appear that require employees to work beyond the standard working week, so does the need to give those employees back their time. Companies around the world including Netflix and Virgin offer unlimited annual leave to their employees and some Australian companies are offering it too. Here's how to score endless holidays at your next job.


Earlier this week, we discussed the challenges that businesses face in creating a diverse workplace that is inclusive of different genders, ethnicities and cultures. One of the tools advocated by Heather Brunner, the CEO of WP Engine, was to ensure names and genders weren't provided to selection panels. Employment marketplace SEEK has launched a new tool called ‘Hide Names’ which aims to reduce unconscious bias in the hiring process.


Hackathons are all the rage. Lots of companies run them as a way of engaging staff, kickstarting innovation and breaking the monotony of every day routines. Seek has now run a number of internal hackathons, scheduling one every six months as a way of kickstarting innovation in system design, business process improvement and finding new ways to work with customers.

I spoke with Seek's managing director Michael Ilczynski and Glen Cameron, the company's head of delivery about business hackathones. Here are some of his tips.


SEEK has updated their mobile app for iOS and Android with a bunch of new features. As well as being able to manage your job seeker profile, and upload and edit a CV or personalised cover letter, you can now apply for job in less time than it takes to tell your boss what they can do with your current job!


While individual experiences may differ, job growth in Australia is on the increase, according to the latest stats from career site Seek. Interestingly, it's the east coast thats reaping the benefits, with the ACT, Victoria and NSW posting double-digit gains over 2015.
