Canon has released the Pixma Endurance G4600 printer in Australia which ditches the cartridge in favour of refillable ink tanks. Here are the details.
Canon isn’t the first printer company to use refillable ink tanks; we reviewed the Epson WorkForce ET-4550 back in 2015 which had the same feature.
Ink tanks seem to gaining popularity in the printer space as consumers are fed up with overpriced replacement ink cartridges that could end up costing more than the printers themselves.
The G4600 is the first continuous ink printer to be introduced to Canon’s Pixma range. According to Canon, it can produce up to 7000 colour pages and 6000 black and white pages with a full tank of ink. The printer comes with four ink bottles (for the colours cyan, magenta, yellow and black). Canon is selling it as a printer suitable for home and home office environments.
Other features and specs include:
- Up to A4 borderless printing
- Supports remote printing from internet services such as Instagram, Google Drive, Facebook and Dropbox through Pixma Cloud Link
- Two-line LCD Screen
- Printing speed: Approximately 24 seconds for a coloured page (according to spec sheet, but if we get a chance to review the printer, we’ll check it ourselves)
- Dimensions: 45.5cm x 33cm x 19.7cm
- Weight: Approximately 7.2kg
- RRP: $599 (we’re still trying to find out how much refill ink bottles cost. We’ll update it as soon as we get that information!)
The Canon Pixma G4600 will be available exclusively at Officeworks from mid-February.

Forget the proprietary ink bottles, we know they’re gonna cost a fortune, are you allowed to use aftermarket refills without killing the warranty? Otherwise it’s a waste of money.
