Train Yourself To Read Faster (And Comprehend What You Read) With This Site

Being able to read things quickly is great, but only if you’re able to comprehend what you’re reading. Blazing through 200 pages of reading in an hour or two is certainly impressive, but if you don’t remember anything you’ve read then it’s also kind of pointless.

Research has shown that the average reader can handle reading 200 words per minute with a 60 per cent comprehension rate if they’re reading words on a traditional page left to right. If you want to comprehend more, you’ll need to slow that pace down or try reading in a different way.

If you instead read just one word at a time, you can bump up that word-per-minute number by reading just one word at a time.

Over the years a handful of tools have launched to help you make that happen. The latest tool to tackle the issue is Read Shit Faster.

With it, you copy/paste the text you’d like to read into the site, set your ideal WPM and press the “Read!” Button. When you do, it will start displaying the text one word at a time until it’s done.

If things kick off a little too fast for you, you can pause reading at any time and slow things down or just to take a break.

Given the need to copy/paste text in order to read it, you probably aren’t going to read entire books using this tool (or maybe you are, you do you), but it can be a great tool to help you practise your speed reading and perhaps up your average WPM number.
