Google has added some handy tools to its Docs productivity suite aimed squarely at students. Here’s a rundown of what’s new.
Google Docs is now widely used by students in high schools and universities and the these enhancements will make life just a little bit easier for them. These include:
Research tool in Docs for Android
A new addition to the Docs family, users can use it to search Google without leaving Docs. If you need to rip a quote, facts or images from a website, you can add them directly to your document easily.
Voice typing
True to the name, this feature allows will transcribe words you read out onto a Google Docs document. It is available in over 40 languages.
See recent changes to shared documents
This makes it easier to track who did what to a shared document, perfect for group assignments.
Forms to create surveys
Customise surveys that you can send out to classmates. You can even use images and GIFs to make it a bit more interesting.
New templates in Docs, Sheets and Slides

Visualise trends and understand the data in inputted in sheets quickly. Works on the browser and Android version.
Google are doing more for teachers as well and has launched the Share to Classroom Chrome extension so they can easily share a website to all students in a classroom simultaneously, regardless of what device is being used. You can find out more over at the Google Docs Blog.

Realistically I don’t know a student who doesn’t get free Office365 these days.
If you know about it, you can sign up I think.
We rolled out Google for Education, it’s great. Kids still don’t save to their google drive and then cry when their laptop breaks though. Oh well.
True, I do know a few people who still go out and buy office educational without realising it’s all free through the university as long as they have an active university email account.
