Windows: Tabs in our web browsers are now the norm, and there’s no reason other apps shouldn’t follow suit. BrightExplorer adds tabs to Windows Explorer to make it easy to work with multiple folders simultaneously.
We’ve previously looked at Clover. While BrightExplorer does much the same job, it’s always nice to have a choice of applications. BrightExplorer plays nicely with existing keyboard shortcuts, so you can stick with pressing Windows + E to open a new tab.
In fact, this is just about all you have to do to use BrightExplorer. Press the shortcut a few times and you’ll have a number of tabs to work with, each of which operates independently of the others. It’s a simple application that offers little in the way of fancy extras — you can organise frequently used tabs into a list of favourites for easy access.
Click the link below to grab a copy of the program for Windows 7 and 8. It is free, but you can purchase add-ons that unlock options such as the ability to drag tabs out into a separate window.

Wow, those tabs look rubbish.
It’s a pity, I love Clover, but the bookmarks bar lost the ability to bookmark folders, and the oddities with it are annoying (like going to “programs and features”, nothing happening, and when you open a new tab in Clover, there it is).
I’m using QTTab Bar at the moment, and while I lose tear-out tabs and the usefulness of the bookmarks bar, it’s doing the job for me.
Kaspersky detects BrightExplorer as ‘HEUR:Trojan.Win32.Generic’. Most likely be a false positive.
Ive just given it a go, and I have to say it’s a little annoying. You open up an explorer window it opens up a normal explorer window, then a second or two later it closes and opens up in bright explorer. If it didn’t have the delay it would be far better. Using Win7.
TabExplorer works well for me.
