The Raspberry Pi is a great little computer, but it’s not exactly the most portable thing in the world. If you want to use it on the go, Instructables user old_alex shows off how to add in a portable, rechargable power source so you can take your Pi anywhere and charge it from just about anything.
The goal of old_alex’s project is to make a portable computer for working out in the field, but it’s just as useful to create an on-the-go XBMC media centre. Unlike previous portable Raspberry Pi projects we’ve seen, this one is all about powering the computer for as long as possible through a variety of sources (AC, DC and automobile). Subsequently, it’s a bit bulky with its 12 V power supply, screen (repurposed from a car-mounted DVD player) and everything else, but the end result is a relatively self-sustaining little system that can can be used almost anywhere. Head over to Instructables for the full guide.
