How to Pay Someone With Apple Pay Cash

How to Pay Someone With Apple Pay Cash

You don’t always need Venmo or PayPal to pay a friend. If they’ve got an iPhone and are set up with Apple Pay Cash, sending them money, or receiving it, only takes a couple of taps on the iPhone.

How Apple Pay Cash works

Apple Pay Cash shows up as a separate card in the Wallet app, and you are free to transfer money to it from your bank account or debit card at any time. If you don’t have a balance in your Apple Pay Cash card, your money will be debited from the bank account that you’ve linked when you set up Apple Pay Cash. If you haven’t already, first set up Apple Pay Cash by going to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay and turn on Apple Pay Cash. Under Payment Cards, tap Apple Cash, choose Continue, and follow the steps to complete the setup.

After setting up, go to Wallet > Apple Cash > More > Add Money to add funds to the Apple Cash card. Apple Pay Cash only works in the US, and on devices that have an Apple ID account, with two-factor authentication enabled.

Apple lets you do this from the Messages app and the Wallet app. When you use the Wallet app, it will still open the iMessage conversation in the Wallet app itself, so we are going to talk about the most convenient way to do this, which is using the Messages app.

The easiest way to send and receive money is using the Messages app. You can do it in the same iMessage thread, keep track of transactions, and get updates when you get a payment.

Open the Messages app on your iPhone and go to the conversation with the person you want to send money to. Tap the Plus button and from the menu, choose Apple Cash

Here, enter the amount that you want to send, and tap the Send button to review the payment. This will show a preview in the text message box, tap the Send button to send the message, and the transfer. If everything looks all right, double-click the Side button to approve the payment. You’ll need to use Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode to approve your payment.

You can use the same method to request payment as well. Open the conversation, tap the Plus button, choose Apple Cash, enter the amount, and choose the Request option instead. You’ll see a little preview of your cash request. Tap the Send button to send the request message to the conversation.

If you don’t have enough money in your Apple Cash card, you can switch to your debit card as well. After tapping the Send button, tap your Apple Card, then tap the Apple Cash slider to turn it off, and then choose the debit card that you want.

When someone sends you money using Apple Pay Cash in the Messages app, you’ll see it show up in the conversation. You’ll also get a notification, and you can find it in the Wallet app. Here, tap your Apple Cash card and you’ll see your latest transactions right at the top. You can use this balance to pay for anything online or in stores, or you can transfer it to your bank account.
