Build A Secret Compartment Into A VHS Tape

Build A Secret Compartment Into A VHS Tape

If you still have some VHS cassettes lying around, we hope you’re digitising them for safe keeping. Once you’re finished that, Instructables user M3G has an interesting use for leftover tapes: as secret stashes for keys, USB drives or documents.

The technique is fairly straightforward, and the only specialised tool you’ll need is a dremel. All you have to do is open up the cassette, cut the tape itself (leaving it in place for appearance), and then clear out the centre of the VHS casing. You can then create a storage space right behind the label. Pop in what you want to store, and reassemble the tape.

If you still have VHS tapes on display alongside your DVDs and Blu-rays, your new secret storage won’t look out of place. Hit the link below to check out the build process.
