Multiple Windows Media Player Gives You Many Player Windows

Windows: There are plenty of great media players out there for Windows, but if Windows Media Player is your favourite, you already know that by default you can only have one player window open at a time. Multiple Windows Media Player is a freeware utility that tweaks the Windows Media Player executable so you can have as many player windows open playing video, music, photos or slideshows as you choose.

Multiple Windows Media Player is the handiwork of Luke Payne, who wanted a way to have more than one WMP window open at the same time — perhaps so he could view his library without having to pause a movie, or build a playlist and sample what tracks went where without pausing or stopping what he was already listening to. The utility updates the WMP.exe executable do avoid the duplicate player check. Just in case anything goes wrong, the utility also makes a backup of the old player, which you can restore at any time. When you’re finished with the utility, you can open as many player windows as you choose.

We tested the app and the restore function and both work as advertised. It may not be for everyone, especially considering how much we love apps like VLC and our current favourite, PotPlayer, but if Windows Media Player is the one you prefer — or the only one you can install — this utility is for you.
