How to Download Netflix Shows and Movies on Your Laptop, Tablet, and Smartphone

If you’ve ever pined for a Netflix binge sesh when you’re stuck somewhere without wifi, it’s important for you to know: You don’t actually need an active internet connection to Netflix and chill. If you plan ahead, you can download some of the content Netflix has to offer on your phone, tablet, or Windows computer. Here’s how to watch Netflix movies and shows when you’re offline.

Make sure you have a compatible device

Downloading works in the Netflix app on iOS and Android devices, Windows 10 tablets and computers, Amazon Fire tablets, and some Chromebooks and Chromeboxes. If you have a compatible device and don’t see any download options, you may need to update your operating system or app.

Check for downloadable content

Once you log into your Netflix app, there are a couple of ways to see what’s available for download. If you have a specific show or movie you’re interested in, search for and select it; if it’s eligible for download, you’ll see a Download button on the description page, both beneath the Play button and next to individual episodes (for TV shows). On Android, there’s also a Download Season button.

Alternatively, navigate to Downloads on the main menu bar and tap the See What You Can Download button. You’ll get a catalogue page organised by category, much like the main Netflix landing page.

Windows 10 users will find this under Menu > Downloads.

Watch Netflix content offline

Once you’ve downloaded what you want to watch, tap the Download icon (Menu > My Downloads on Windows 10) on the main navigation bar to see what’s in your offline library. Tap the title and hit the Play icon.

According to Netflix, you can keep up to 100 downloads per device. However, downloads do expire — some within 48 hours of hitting play. You can always re-download the episode or movie if you want to watch it again, though.
