Glow is back! Glow is frickin’ back on June 29! Hot damn! Time to re-watch season 1, wherein Alison Brie, Marc Maron, and Betty Gilpin work out their feelings through the language of headlocks. When you’re done with that, here are all the new TV shows, movies, and stand-up specials coming to US Netflix in June.
Note: This list refers to the US version of Netflix. It has a different library to Australia which changes from month to month. This information is only relevant to readers who access US Netflix using a VPN. Our roundup of Australian Netflix changes will be appearing soon.
The Highlights
Shows
This year’s appointed successor to Making a Murderer is The Staircase, a “did he/didn’t he” about author Michael Peterson and the suspicious death of his wife. This is an updated version of the 2004 docuseries. Watch the trailer here.
In Netflix original series: Nailed It, the show where people make cakes bad, is back. So are superhero drama Luke Cage, British detective drama Marcella, and Spanish comedy Paquita Salas. Busted! has a season finale on June 1. And Sense8 comes to an end on June 8. 8! Just like in the title!
You can now watch season 8 of Portlandia, season 14 of Grey’s Anatomy, season 4 of The Night Shift, and season 5 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Comedy
New comedy specials from W. Kamau Bell and Australian comedian Hannah Gadsby (whom you’ve seen in Please Like Me). Michelle Wolf has a new show streaming every Sunday.
Movies
A few good movies are coming this month: In Bruges, The Departed, Blue Jasmine, He Named Me Malala, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. You can still see the second Guardians of the Galaxy but not the first. Speaking of which, Thor: Ragnarok is back — will I understand it if I haven’t seen a single Marvel movie since Iron Man?
Leaving
During June, Netflix will lose 8 Mile, Men in Black, Training Day, Bonnie & Clyde, The Great Gatsby, eight seasons of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, and the unrated version of Bad Grandpa.
And here are our three favourite loglines by Netflix:
To Each, Her Own (Les Goûts et les couleurs): “Just as Simone works up the courage to tell her conservative Jewish family she’s a lesbian, she finds herself attracted to a male Senegalese chef.”
Maktub: “After surviving a bomb attack, two low-level mobsters in Jerusalem change their ways and set about making supplicants’ Wailing Wall prayers come true.”
True: Wonderful Wishes: “Welcome back to a wonderful world full of friendship, adventure and magical wishes that make big dreams come true!”
