Why You Should Trim Your Candle Wicks Before Each Burn

Aside from ensuring you don’t light them near curtains or any other potential fire hazard, there are proper ways to light candles. For example, you should trim your wick before each burn. Here’s why.

Over at Business Insider, a former Yankee Candle employee shares a few tips for burning candles the right way, and one of the most useful pieces of advice is to trim down your wick between 3mm and 6mm long. Caroline Praderio explains:

You can use scissors, nail clippers (that’s my personal favourite), or a specialised wick trimmer, but no matter what you do, always trim… trimmed wicks will give you a cleaner, brighter burn. Untrimmed wicks are a lot more likely to take on a weird mushroom-esque shape (see below) that dulls and obscures the flame.

Beyond that, trimmed wicks keep your candles clean so you can avoid those ugly burnt rings around the jar. For more tips, head to Praderio’s full post at the link below.
