Internet service provider MyRepublic thinks it’s rubbish that a lot of Australians on the National Broadband Network (NBN) are getting ADSL speeds. The company has announced its entering the local market with a ‘true’ NBN offer that gives customers up to 100Mbps download speeds with no data limits for a flat rate of $59.95 per month. Here’s what you need to know.
Singapore-based MyRepublic has been eyeing the Australian market for some time and former Telstra boss David Thodey once said the overseas company was more of a threat in the local market than Optus and TPG. It already has operations in Singapore, Indonesia and New Zealand.
After slamming the current NBN for its fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) design and teasing that it will be coming to Australia, MyRepublic has finally announced a local launch date: November 15. It will be using the NBN infrastructure. MyRepublic executives also took a dig at existing ISPs that are offering NBN services but delivering speeds that are similar to older ADSL technology.
The company is offering up to 100Mbps download and up to 40Mbps upload speeds for $59.95 per month. If you want a wireless router, that will cost you an extra dollar.
There is a caveat: you will only get those speeds if you’re on the fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) part of the NBN.
If you’re interested in pre-registering for MyRepublic’s broadband service, you can do so over at the company’s website.

Typo in the article… 40mbps download should be upload 😛
All fixed 🙂 Thanks!
I think the link is broken?

I wonder how many of the 17 people who already have FTTP will switch to MyRepublic…
Take my upvote damn you! 🙂
That number is so fucked. When looking at the breakdown of connections, we’ve spent billions on connecting people with primarily the same technology at pretty much identical speeds. Uggh.
Wait, so if I have FTTB will they still sell the deal? I can buy all of the same plans as FTTP, with the caveat that speeds aren’t guaranteed. Is it the same with these guys?
