Android: Cal, the calendar app from the folks behind Any.DO, has updated today with “HeadsUp”, a new feature designed to make your meetings more productive. Before, during, and after your meeting, the app prompts you with tools and shortcuts to help you prepare, get there, take notes or video, and wrap up when it’s done.
Before your meeting, HeadsUp will prompt you with a reminder, shortcuts to get directions or find a taxi, a button to review the meeting attendees, and quick buttons to help you notify the organiser that you’ll be late if you’re running behind. During the meeting, HeadsUp displays quick buttons to shoot video or record audio of what’s going on, take a photo (so you can snap pictures of a whiteboard or presentation), a shortcut to mute your phone, a shortcut to add any to-dos to your list (presumably in Any.DO), and a quick button to send a summary email of what happened in the meeting. When the meeting is finished, the display changes again and shows you quick buttons to send that summary email, add your to-dos if you didn’t during the meeting, or schedule a follow-up meeting.
The goal of the new feature is to make Cal a more robust tool for people who have meetings but don’t want to waste their precious out-of-meeting time dealing with the minutiae of the meeting itself. It’s a simple and elegant addition to an already solid calendar app, and it’s something that people with packed calendars ill appreciate.
HeadsUp is available first in the Android version of Cal. It will make its way to the iOS version soon. Hit the link below to read more, or grab it in the latest version of Cal from Google Play.
