25 Of The Most Delightfully Nerdy Holiday Destinations

If you’re looking to make your next holiday more educational, or just want to geek out while you travel, these 25 destinations are definitely worth looking into. Whether you’re an animal lover or Harry Potter fan, there’s something here for everyone.

In this video from the Mental Floss YouTube channel, host John Green explains the most epic “nerdcation” spots around the globe. If you like to nerd out about nature, you can see the bison roundup at Custer State Park in South Dakota, or help hundreds of baby sea turtles make their way into the ocean in Corpus Christi, Texas, or witness the hawk migration that takes place in Cape May, New Jersey every fall.

Harry Potter fans can visit Alnwick Castle in England, where the first two movies were filmed, or ride the real Hogwarts Express, which is the West Highland Railway’s Jacobite steam train in Scotland. You can even stay at the hotel in Edinburgh where J.K. Rowling finished writing the series, the Balmoral Hotel.

If you’re more of a horror nerd, you can visit Bran Castle in Transylvania, which was used as a reference by Bram Stoker when he wrote Dracula, or stay at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, which is the place that inspired Stephen King’s book The Shining. It’s nice to hit the beach and relax sometimes, but why not go see the places that really get you excited?
