This week’s KIQ turns the tables which will undoubtedly throw some interviewees off.

Netflix vice president for original content Adam Bryant isn’t a fan of knowing where a job applicant went to school or what fancy company they may have worked at. What he does care about is finding out what people are interested in and what they look forward to in their careers.
This has prompted Bryant to ask what questions candidates have for him at the beginning of a interview.
“I want to know what they’re curious about. Some people respond well to that first question and some people are so thrown that they say they don’t have any questions,” he said. “It doesn’t disqualify them automatically, but it definitely tells me something about them.”

i would have thought this was a pretty standard component of any interview?
Component, yes, but not something you throw at people right at the start.
It would be interesting to see what the psychology behind it is. I’d have thought that if you ask the right kinds of questions and can direct the conversation with specific objectives in mind, you wouldn’t need to surprise people and/or possibly put them on guard right at the start.
Depends on the nature of the job, too. If it’s a sales job, then closing with a “Well, when can I start?” might earn you brownie points.
