Give Your Glossy Tech A Brushed Finish With Stripping Pads

If you hate the look of glossy plastic (or if your gadgets have just gotten scratched and marked beyond recognition), you can give it a better looking “brushed” finish. All you need to do is sand it down with some stripping pads.

Luke from Linus Tech Tips does a bit of experimenting in the video above, using a Wii, a computer monitor and an external hard drive to find the best solution for a brushed plastic finish. He found that stripping pads worked best, providing a near-professional look without too much trouble.

Of course, you’re technically damaging the surface of your gadgets when you do this, do don’t do this to something you might want to sell later, and test it on an inconspicuous area to see how it looks, if possible (Luke used the back of the monitor, which he would never see). But if you plan on keeping it forever, or if it’s so scratched up that it looks awful, this is a pretty neat little trick. Check out the video to see it in action.
