Coasters keep cold drinks from marking your nice tables — if your guests remember to use them. Why not give them a little extra incentive by making your own coasters out of cool-looking napkins or photographs?

Instructables user victordoes walks us through the process. Basically, you cut the image to size and glue it to a clay tile. Cover the image with glue that dries transparent to protect it from the drinks. Glue a piece of cardboard to the back to prevent the tile from scratching your furniture. We suppose if you wanted to get extra-fancy, you could go with a layer of felt instead of carboard.
