Build Your Own Ball Pit

Build Your Own Ball Pit

For kids, public ball pits are colourful pools of joy and wonder. For parents, they’re disgusting germ incubators, a place where boogers, soggy Band-Aids and mouldy sandwich crumbs go to die.

Reddit user Waadap

A Reddit user had a solution to this unfortunate paradox: He built his own. With less than $400 worth of supplies (basically, PVC poles, mesh and 2500 balls purchased online), the DIY dad created a 1.2m by 1.2m ball pit for his daughter to jump, wiggle and wade in. It’s easy to clean — once a week, he just sprays down the general area with sanitiser.

The best part? “It also doubles fantastically as a way to confine her for a while should other housework and something need to be done,” he writes.
