Video: Even basic networking gear gets messy really quickly, if the pile of unorganised cables under my desk right now is any indication. Mounting your hardware to a simple wall or desk-mounted board can keep it much cleaner.
As the video above from LinusTechTips demonstrates, one of the best ways to keep your networking gear organised and clean is to mount it all on the wall. However, if you rent (or just don’t want to screw up your walls) a single board of wood works just as well. Possibly even better, as it allows you to pick up and move your hardware easily. This may come in handy when you need to troubleshoot something.
Most of the boxes you see in the video above are adhered to the board via rolls of Velcro tape. They then used cable loops to keep the cables nice and tightly organised around the edges of the boxes. As the video points out, this makes it easy to move your entire networking kit from one room (or building) to another. No more piling up everything in a box and reassembling it in a new place.
