How I Succeeded is a regular series on Lifehacker where we ask business leaders for the secrets and tactics behind their success. Today: Jamie Davidson from JAMF
Current gig: Country Manager, JAMF Software for Australia and New Zealand (Okay it’s not a ‘country’ but that’s not the way Americans think!)
Location: Sydney, Australia
Current mobile device: iPhone 6 128Gb — I love the extra storage!
Current computer: MacBook Air 13-inch — Still going strong after I spilled a glass of water on it.
One word that best describes how you work: Informally
What apps/software/tools can’t you live without?
Evernote (at least my messy notes are now organised), Acrobat Pro (brilliant for editing and converting all types of PDFs and documents), Time Scroller App (if you work for an International business this App is invaluable for checking appropriate meeting/call times worldwide)
What social network do you find the most useful?
LinkedIn. I’m sort of sad to say it’s the only social network I use on a regular basis.
What were the most important lessons you learned while growing your business?
Follow up. It’s so easy yet it’s surprising how a basic principle of good business can be ignored, forgotten or not bothered with by so many.
What has been the most surprising part of your business journey?
Unintentionally, it has always involved selling software solutions around the Apple platform… Since 1987. Scary!
What everyday thing are you better at than anyone else?
Being myself.
What’s your sleep routine like?
What’s your sleep routine like? Usually involves a bed, a wife, a book, a radio in the morning. The kids have always acted as the morning alarm clock so we’re up early..
What advice would you offer to other businesses on how to succeed?
Earn more than you spend. Simple, but all too often ignored.
