Automated Device Brings ‘And/Or’ Rules To Android Automation

Android: Apps like Tasker are fantastic for turingn your Android into an automated beast, but even with Tasker’s new UI, they can seem a little daunting. Plus, they’re generally restricted to “And” clauses instead of “And/Or” when setting up rules. Automated Device is a new automation app that offers that flexibility and is easy to set up as well.

Automated Device lets you control Switchers, Profiles or Rules. Here’s a brief rundown of what each does:

• Switchers are simple toggles for actions such as Wi-Fi on/off, auto/manual brightness or speaker on/off/vibrate. Each switch comes with the option of a timeout if you want to enable it. This feature is manual, not automatic.
• Profiles are one-tap launchers for a set of actions. The actions might be launching an app, switching settings, or sending an email. Tap the profile and hit the arrow to activate it; and like a switcher, you can set a timeout. This feature is manual, not automatic.
• Rules follow basic “if this, then that” logic for certain phone settings. The cool part is that the “If” logic isn’t restricted to “And” alone for multiple logic parameters. For example, if you want to set a bunch of actions to be executed when you enter your home, the condition to be met can be either your GPSlocation or connecting your phone to a charger or connecting to Wi-Fi. The condition doesn’t have to meet all those criteria, like Tasker and other apps ask for. This feature is completely automatic.

The interface to set up the switches, profiles and rules is much simpler than Tasker and other automated apps I’ve tried. Plus, the developer is actively adding more conditions and addressing any errors or queries in the XDA thread below, so you can head there for more info.
