The say nothing is more certain that death and taxes. And, if you're the ATO, public outages that garner lots of attention can be added to that list. At the Technology in Government conference taking place over the next couple of days in Canberra, the ATO's Chief Digital Officer, John Dardo, told the audience that a number of changes are coming.


The term "digital transformation" gets tossed around a lot and it sounds like such a huge endeavour that progressive organisations undertake. The perceived scale of these transformation projects may be intimidating for some companies but the process doesn't have to be complex, according to analyst firm Ovum. You just have to start small.

Predicting the future is near impossible -- but that doesn‘t stop us all from having a red hot go. Human beings have been predicting the future since the beginning of history and the results range from the hilarious to the downright uncanny.

One thing all future predictions have in common: they‘re rooted in our current understanding of how the world works. It‘s difficult to escape that mindset. We have no idea how technology will evolve, so our ideas are connected to the technology of today.


Twice in the last week, in very different forums, GE has been pointed out to me as a very old company that has managed to make the transition from a successful "old" company into a digital one. They're making some bold moves to do this, including killing off a successful part of their business for the sake of progress.
