Predicting the future is near impossible -- but that doesn‘t stop us all from having a red hot go. Human beings have been predicting the future since the beginning of history and the results range from the hilarious to the downright uncanny.

One thing all future predictions have in common: they‘re rooted in our current understanding of how the world works. It‘s difficult to escape that mindset. We have no idea how technology will evolve, so our ideas are connected to the technology of today.

Finance comparison site Mozo has gathered up its review data over 12 months to award "People's Choice" gongs to the best financial institutions and products. Perhaps unsurprisingly, online accounts rate the highest, while the Big Four (Commonwealth, NAB, Westpac/St George and ANZ) don't score so well.

Credit card companies offer a huge range of rewards schemes, making it tricky to find one that matches your needs. The Rewards Revealer tool on the Mozo site identifies credit cards which match your needs, based on how much you spend annually on your credit card and the kind of rewards you want.

We had a terrific response to our competition offering $500 off your credit card bill thanks to the awesome team at Mozo. Entries ranged from the perhaps-obvious ("I responded first") to the somewhat strange (squid obsessions?) and quite a bit of poetry, and plenty of them made me laugh. Ultimately, though, there can be only one winner, and I've judged the best entry to be the one that most represents Lifehacker's spirit of community, albeit in a slightly twisted way:

I think the winner should be someone who contributes to Lifehacker's other posts, rather than commenting for financial gain. Ahem!

Ahem indeed. Congratulation edawnedsram for winning, and thanks again to everyone who entered and to Mozo for coughing up the cash.

Regular Lifehacker readers will be familiar with Mozo, the finance comparison service which we talked about when it launched back in October. Using Mozo's personalised search tools, you can compare and shortlist products and check out reviews from thousands of real customers. If you've been giving your credit card a battering in the lead up to Christmas, you'll especially like Mozo's free Health Check service which shows you how to detox your debt by switching to a better value credit card for your personal financial situation. To celebrate the service, and because they're nice guys who know Christmas does terrible things to a person's wallet, Mozo is offering one Lifehacker reader the chance to get $500 paid off their credit card. To enter the contest, just log onto Mozo and take the credit card Heath Check. Then post the amount you would save by switching banks or cards as a comment back here on this post, along with a reason why you should be the winner in 25 words or less. Each entry will be individually judged and the most creative response will get the prize. There's $500 on offer; what exactly are you waiting for? The competition closes December 16, so get cracking!
