Most people realise that long-life juice contains extra ingredients that nature never intended. As it turns out, this includes traces of meat and alcohol. No really. Juice manufacturer Golden Circle recently admitted that it uses alcohol-based flavours and a clarifying agent derived from beef for its long-life juice range. Personally, when I order "cow juice" I expect to be served a glass of milk.

Sunday morning, September 29. I step on the scales. 65.5kg. It's been four weeks since the end of my juice fast. For an entire week I consumed nothing but juice and water. A hellacious, strange task. I lost 5kgs in the process.

While potatoes continue to be the most farmed vegetable, carrots are the biggest seller, with nearly 95 percent of Australians purchasing a bag last month. The rest of the top ten has a somewhat curious order, with cauliflower managing to trump both capsicum and onion.

Every time I walk past the office kitchen I want a Pepsi Max. Each day, around 10.30am I allow myself to think about lunch. When I think about watching sport on my lunch break I instantly want chicken. When I watch a movie I wonder where the chocolate is. Hello, I'm Mark Serrels and for the next week I'm going on a juice fast. My goal is to go from roughly 70kgs to my fighting weight of 65kgs in seven days. It's a bit extreme, it's a bit silly, but hey -- it might be entertaining! Over the coming days I'l be writing about the experience here at Lifehacker. There will be hunger. There will be tears. There will be juice.
