Let’s be real, Christmas is always an expensive time of year even when we’re not in an economic downturn. But with inflation rising, wages stagnating, and households feeling the pinch, our Christmas budgets may not be as large as years gone by.
One study by Compare The Market found that due to rising prices across the board, 40.3% of Australians believe they’ll spend less this Christmas than they have in the past. 8% of the 1002 people surveyed also said they’ll pay closer attention to sales and discounts this holiday season.
However, according to Afterpay’s Festive Forecast, it’s not all doom and gloom. Gen Z in particular are excited about the festive season and 56% of people surveyed said they’d be prompted to make a purchase if it was on sale, making Black Friday the perfect time to get some shopping sorted.
So, if you’re counting the dollars and hesitantly looking at your loved ones’ Christmas gift list, then read on for some tips on finding the best end-of-year deals.
Brands’ apps can be a super handy way to see all of their available sales. Apps like Afterpay help you to find thousands of Black Friday deals in the one place. Utilising Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales (held on the 25th and 28th of November) can help you to cross some gifts off your Christmas list at discounted prices.
Plus, new Afterpay customers can get $30 towards their first purchase. Huge. To nab this, download the app and head to ‘My Afterpay’. Then, enter HOLIDAY30 into the promotion screen.
The Afterpay App houses brand sales across categories such as Pet, Fashion and Apparel, Beauty, Furniture and Bedding, Appliances and so much more. Some sales include:
- 50% off selected Petbarn products.
- 30% off selected Mens, Womens, Kids and Sport categories at The Iconic.
- Up to 30% off sitewide at Oz Hair and Beauty.
- Up to 50% off selected products at Freedom.
- And 50% off selected products at Godfreys.
Plus heaps more. The Afterpay App helps you to hack the sales and get your Christmas list sorted.
As well as utilising sales, shopping the second-hand market is a great way to save some of those pretty pennies. While there are some random items to wade through, you can find total gems on resale sites including eBay and Facebook Marketplace. But, be careful, Facebook doesn’t take any steps to vet buyers and sellers, so it’s up to users to ensure they don’t get scammed. You can also find unique, handmade gifts (sometimes at cheaper price points) on sites like Etsy.
There are a whole host of comparison sites out there, and their whole job is to get you the best deal. Comparison shopping engines allow shoppers to compare pricing and shipping options, along with the best deals available. Some of the top Comparison shopping engines are Google Shopping, Finder, and GetPrice.
Follow Brands On Social Media
As we’ve all witnessed over the past few years, social media platforms like Instagram have essentially turned into shopping networks. With Instagram’s shopping tab and pretty much every brand having an online presence, by following their accounts you can be the first to see any sales they’re advertising and find a lot of them in one place.
